Use AMK Ground Goop to create & shape terrain on your layout or diorama. Apply with a spatula, putty or artist's palette knife, brush, squeegie or other means. Use cardboard strips, plaster cloth or wire mesh as a substrate. It takes a day to cure. When partly cured, roads or other features can be formed & trees poked into place. Craftsman Model Building Service
Richard just completed the latest model for the 1861 Spanishtown Diorama, pictured below.
We now have five Craftsman Model Builders available to build kits or one off scratch built models. Combined, they have over 200 years of model building experience. Contact Tom Andersen for details.
Pictured below are examples of our model builder's work. Pictured below are an HO & O scale version of the same model, Gilbert's Grocery. Bill built the O gauge model in styrene following the plans for an old Fine Scale Miniatures kit. He later duplicated the store, again in styrene, in HO for his current layout. to see more of Bill's fine workmanship, go to the Bill's Models page.
The next picture below is a model built by Rob Brost.Again, see more of his finely detailed modeling on the Rob's Models page.
Franciscan Hobbies on Ocean Street in San Francisco closed its doors on January 31, 2014. Established by owner John Gunther's father in 1946, Fransciscan conducted a "Going Out of Business" sale throughout January. The reason for closing is the squeezing of profit margins from suppliers which no longer affords operating expenses in San Francisco at this time. read their full account on their web site:
Don Grant managed their model railroad department. Don was our mentor & guru as Julie and I re-entered the model railroad realm after our first modeling in the 1960s: Me with HO scale Athearn & Atlas products, Julie with N scale Marklin products. Don worked hand in hand as we built our HOn3 layout.
When we launched Andersen Model Kits in November 2007, John Gunther & Don Grant worked with us gathering many of the components for our model kits.
We owe them a debt of gratitude & consider them friends for life.
It is a sad day indeed when our model railroad store of first choice closes its doors after having opened the same year I was born...

Tom & Julie Andersen
We are the Andersen's of Andersen Model Kits & Julie's Aspens & Evergreens. I answer each phone call & e-mail personally & promptly. My career as owner-operator of five retail stores spanning 31 years resulted in a keen sense of what it takes to provide steller customer service.
I love this business. Moreover, I'm having the time of my life getting to know the incredible diversity & excellence of the people who are the modelers & vendors in fine craftsman model railroading.
Julie & I look forward to serving you in the best way we know how. We especially look forward to enhancing your experience in the truly wonderful realm we inhabit!
And, by the way, don't miss the jokes page on this site. If you have a joke that might adapt to the modeling realm, please pass it along!

Wolf Creek Roundhouse Walls
Cornelius had achieved lofty levels in fine scale modeling as few had done before him. Corny, as he was known to his friends, had been bestowed with Master Model Railroader by the NMRA. His first article in Model Railroader was published when he was eleven. He had served on the committee to bring the National Narrow Gauge Convention to the town where he lived even though the population was only 4000. His layout was by far the one most visited during the convention. He had given clinics on how to sratch build by soldering a shay locomotive.
But the one achievement of his modeling dreams had eluded him, that being membership in the prestigious & world-renown local model railroad club. But, after observing his many achievements, the acceptance committee at the club decided to give him a trial membership.
Terms of the membership were a fifteen year vow of silence, broken only by a one sentence statement before the committee every five years. Corny accepted the terms...
He never missed a meeting, work or operating session.
After five years he was allowed to speak before the committee. "I've only been allowed to sweep up & dust the layout", Corny said.
At the ten year mark Corny spoke again: "My only work assignment has been to hand lay track".
At his fifteen year audience with the committee Corny Complained "At the operating sessions I'm only allowed to signal when the cars are spotted over the uncoupling locations".
The committee made their decision. " Your membership is hereby & immediately terminated".
"But, why, pray tell?" Corny said in a pleading tone.
"Because you've done nothing but bitch every since you got here" was the committee's reply.

Official AMK Limousine
AMK Founder & Owner & Staff
Tom Andersen takes Andersen Model Kits entire staff for a joy ride on the company limousine.
We were fascinated with the profusion of motor scooters while travelling in Italy. We toured throughout the US & Mexico in 2003 in a motor home & chose this Italian Aprilia 150cc Scarabeo to use while camped in the RV. We have ridden it throughout Baja California, Santa Fe, New Orleans & many other places. Besides being a kick to ride, it has plenty of cargo space for grocies etc., goes 70mph on flat ground with two aboard, has plenty of pep & gets 65 mpg. We use it around home except when cargo requirements, our German Shepherd Duke, or weather dictate otherwise.
